Four-star SG enjoys Mizzou visit

COLUMBIA | Robert Hubbs III is keeping an open mind. The four-star shooting guard from Newbern, Tenn., is a wanted man; he has over 15 scholarship offers from schools all over the country, including Duke, Arkansas, Memphis, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, so he isn’t about to make a hasty decision.

But while Hubbs III, a 6-foot-4, 175-pounder who is rated by Rivals as the No. 24 overall recruit in the Class of 2013, won't be narrowing his list any time soon, all indications are the University of Missouri made a positive impression on him this weekend.

ArPreps: Arkansas target Hubbs III learned that father knows best

Tennessee shooting guard Robert Hubbs III has worked his way into being one of the top 2013 prospects in the nation. He led M33M of Memphis to the Mike Conley, Jr. championship bracket at the Real Deal in the Rock tournament over the weekend.

The process of becoming an elite recruit started out at an early age with help from his father.

“When he was a little kid we played ball all the time,” Robert Hubbs II said. “I would play on my knees playing against him 1-on-1.  From that point on we’ve had a ball in his hands. He’s developed a lot of skills and we’ve worked on a lot of different things.”

Hubbs, 6-6, 190 pounds, of Newbern Dyer County High School has approximately 16 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Memphis, Tennessee, Florida and Vanderbilt. He said he plans to make an official visit to Fayetteville in Saturday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

CA: Top guard Hubbs savors role as small-town hero

Dyer County junior guard Robert Hubbs III has become a bit of a celebrity in his hometown. People stop him just to tell him how well he's playing and how fortunate the town is to have the No. 24-ranked player in America.

"It's basically different, because we don't have that many basketball players around," Hubbs said. "I just wanna be something special one day and wanna be known as a Newbern hometown favorite."

Hubbs likely has already achieved the latter. He has scholarship offers from the University of Memphis, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida, to name a few.
